SCIENCE LUNCH at OLD ROAD CAMPUS - Wednesday 25 July

Scientists working at the John Radcliffe Hospital site, the Old Road Campus and other 'Headington' sites often can't make it down the hill to Wolfson at lunchtime. In order to encourage Wolfson 'Medical' Scientists working at these sites to meet each other, we have arranged a pizza lunch at the Old Road Campus Research Building from 12noon - 1pm on Wednesday 25 July. Please do join us, whether you are a student, a postdoctoral researcher, a fellow, a member of common room or a visitor. If you'd like to attend this lunch please send an email to: christina.redfield@wolfson.ox.ac.uk by Friday 20 July. We need to know who is coming so that we can order enough pizza and so that we can provide a 'guest' list for the reception desk at the Old Road Campus Research Building. Prof Christina Redfield & Prof Gillies McKenna

WOLFSON WINTER BALL

The Wolfson Winter Ball is the main social event of the year and is solely run by students. Last year was a huge success and we want to repeat - if not surpass - the achievements of the previous year. It is a great event to get involved in, and there is a position available for however you want to help out! Please volunteer in whatever capacity you can. It is a commitment but we try to meet just once a week, and come December you'll not only be done but you'll also be the toast of Wolfson College! Yet again, in 2012 we will be the only College with a winter ball, so lets show the rest of the colleges how its done! You can nominate yourself using this link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/M9GLCGC Marc Sarazin, SCC Chair

OXFORD UNIVERSITY DRAMA SOCIETY (OUDS)

If you're at all interested in theatre, Oxford University Drama Society (OUDS) needs you! We're looking for a representative at every College to encourage first-years into the university drama scene, and are especially keen to get more graduates involved. Every year, we hold the Drama Cuppers competition: each College submits a 10-15min piece of theatre (doesn't matter what it is - it can be newly written, a short sketch, or a scene from a longer piece). These are then judged by OUDS Committee members, the top ten are called back to perform once more, and finally prizes are awarded in various categories. Only first-years are allowed to participate in Cuppers, so - as our Rep - you would be in an entirely advisory capacity. Theatre is a great way to get to know people, though, and so we'd ask that you speak to as many people as possible of the new students and drum up theatrical interest, before then acting as a go-between for the Wolfson Cuppers production and OUDS. If you're interested (or have any questions), please do email me (thomas.fowler@theology.ox.ac.uk). We look forward to working with you! Tommo

PORTABLE APPLIANCE TESTING

In accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, the College has a legal obligation to carry out portable appliance testing annually. This work will commence on Monday 16 July and should be completed by Friday 20 July. We will email residents and inform them of the days they will be working in their particular areas. Access to all communal areas in single accommodation, and access to the kitchen in married and family accommodation will be required. The items to be tested are College owned portable appliances only, eg kettles, fridges etc. Thank you for your help and co-operation. Barry Coote, Home Bursar
